Are you ready for another family-friendly DVD review and giveaway? I thought so! I just love doing these reviews and giveaways, because my family loves watching movies together, but it’s so hard to find movies that are God-honoring these days. And when I find a good movie, I love to share all about it!

The latest movie up for review and giveaway is Ring the Bell, a story about worldly ambition vs. what really matters. In fact, it’s somewhat reminiscent of my post Monday about what is really important in life.

Rob Decker is a successful big-city sports agent, looking to sign a small-town high school baseball star. When his car has trouble, he’s stranded in a town with people whose values are very different from his own. Will he convince the young baseball star to pursue a life of fame and fortune, or will the townspeople teach Rob something more?

My family loved this movie! We enjoyed the unexpected special appearances of Steven Curtis Chapman, Casting Crowns, Matthew West, and baseball legends John Kruk, Rick Sutcliffe, and Ben Zobrist. My husband, the sportscaster, squealed in surprise when the baseball players appeared.

Ring the Bell is definitely an evangelistic movie, bringing the viewer to the realization that there is nothing more important in life than a relationship with Christ. And since it was an evangelistic movie, it was somewhat predictable.

That didn’t take away from our family’s enjoyment, though. It was fun to watch Ryan Scharoun, as Rob Decker, totally out of his element in the small town. Ashley Anderson McCarthy was a fabulous contrast to Scharoun as she played Daisy, Rob Decker’s romantic interest.

A highlight of the film for our family was the Casting Crowns concert scene in the middle of the movie. We’ve been to a couple of Casting Crowns concerts personally, and the scene had the same feel as a typical concert, complete with an altar call. And of course hearing the Crowns sing “The Well” was fabulous.

Ring the Bell is a fun movie with a great message. It doesn’t have the bells and whistles of a major Hollywood production, but it is still worth watching. There are some serious scenes in the movie and young children might not understand the plot, but this is a great movie for upper elementary kids and older.
